Aurora sprawls across three counties — Adams, Arapahoe, and Douglas — making it one of the most geographically diverse cities on the Front Range. The city's population exceeds 390,000, and its demographics are among the most diverse in Colorado, with significant immigrant communities from East Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. The Anschutz Medical Campus, shared with the University of Colorado, is the city's largest employment anchor and one of the most significant medical research centers in the Rocky Mountain region. Buckley Space Force Base provides another major employment center on the city's east side. Neighborhoods vary dramatically: the older Original Aurora district near Colfax Avenue has a gritty urban feel, while Southlands in the southeast offers upscale shopping and newer subdivisions, and the Painted Prairie development near DIA represents the newest wave of master-planned growth. Cherry Creek State Park and the High Line Canal Trail provide outdoor recreation running through the city. The RTD light rail connects central Aurora to Denver via the R and H lines. Aurora Public Schools is the district for most of the city, though some addresses fall in Cherry Creek Schools — one of the top districts in the state.
